Episode Title: "Someone to watch over Annie"
Original Air Date: 01/06/1998
Annie Pendry, a widow, comes to Harm for help after her young son, Josh, witnessed a murder while on a class trip to Andrews Air Force Base. After Harm and Josh are the targets of a drive-by shooting, Harm moves Josh and Annie into his apartment -- and into his life. Harm discovers that the original crime and the drive-by shooting are tied to a ruthless international arms dealer, but not before Josh is kidnapped by the dealer in order to silence him as a witness.
This military-legal drama has shown a gain in ratings since moving from NBC to CBS a year ago, and one reason may be an increased emphasis on character development as opposed to good-guys vs. bad-guys' plots. "The die-hard fans like the more personal stories," says executive producer Don Bellisario; they're "the glue that keeps the whole show together." In this episode, things get romantic between Harm (David James Elliott) and his best friend's widow, Annie (Daphne Ashbrook), after her son (Will Rothhaar) witnesses a murder. The story also peels away some of the gruff exterior of Harm's boss, Adm. Chegwidden (John M. Jackson).
The widow of Harm's best friend asks for help after her young son witnesses a murder.
